This week Greg, Vanessa, Jo Harrison and I are down at the lovely Ocean Grove in Victoria having a “post-workshop” planning session. We’re having lots of fun hanging out together, cooking yummy meals, and having a laugh while getting through all the post-workshop stuff. While we have had quite a few stir-crazy moments of fatigued hilarity, I promise we are doing some work! The view from the “office” this week is extraordinary, and it makes me so grateful to have a lifestyle business that we can run from anywhere!
The last couple of days has really showed to me the value of a great team as well. I’m so humbled to be surrounded by such good, competent people with a real energy and zest for life. It’s really wonderful to be able to connect with the team in such an intense, yet relaxed setting. Something I’ve really noticed over the past year is that the more I surround myself with good people, the more fully I can become who I am, so my invitation is to do just that!
The Presentation Profits Intensive Workshop was a wild success on the weekend. With glowing feedback from everyone who attended, it was a pleasure to connect with great people and their businesses. Here’s a few photos from the event so you can see what we got up to.
Have a great week,
Love Jo
"How to Get More Speaking Gigs"
People always ask me "how do I get more opportunities to speak?"
So here are a few basic steps you need to follow:
- Define your audience: Ask yourself "Who are my target audience?" and "Where are they already meeting?" So its important to first define who are the people you want to be speaking in front of?
- Brainstorm a list of any and every club, networking event, organisation etc where those people are gathering together in a room.
- Select a few of those - the easiest ones to get access to, are easy to join, or where you already have a relationship with them. Select three of them and for each one, find out who is the person who selects the speaker or organises things.
- Build a relationship with that person. So many people think you just have to offer your services to get a gig, but it doesn't work like that. The speaking business is a relationship building business, so it's important to find out who is in charge and build a relationship with them first.
- Create the opportunity: Once the relationship is in place, it is about creating the opportunity to speak at that event. It's not something that happens overnight, you need to have a farming mentality - sewing the seeds, tilling the soil, fertilising, watering and watching the plants grow.
So in summary, the best way to get more opportunities to present, is to build relationships with the people who are hosting the eventsyou want to speak at already.
Have fun!
