The Secrets of Selling From Stage
Official Newsletter with Dr Joanna Martin
How are you today? I am so excited, because things are really ramping up this week with a series of "firsts".
Our tour around Australia has well and truly started. We had our first event in Brisbane last Saturday. Everyone really enjoyed themselves, we've had some great feedback sent in.
Here's what one Brisbane attendee wrote:
"Hi Joey,
I would like to thank you for an amazing day, you are so inspiring!! The program today was fantastic and I enjoyed every minute of it, there was so much valuable content and opportunities to take the learnings away and use them straight away. Once again thank you, it was fantastic to see you again you are a very special person and you are a blessing to many through your work."

Last night we flew into Perth for an XL event tonight, and our next Presentation Secrets event this coming Saturday. It is so great meeting everyone in person, I hope to see you at one of the events coming up soon.
We also had our first Teleseminar call on Monday. These are a series of preview calls I am running in the lead up to the Presentation Profits Intensive 3 day workshop which will be held in Melbourne in March and London in May. I had Jo, our new head coach for the million dollar masterclass, on the line to interview me and we discussed the ins and outs of "elegant business models". If you haven't registered for the teleseminar series yet, it's not too late. Once you register you'll be sent the call details of the upcoming calls as well as be able to download the first call from Monday. Click here to register now.
This weeks edition of "Behind The Scenes" is content-packed with some new sections including a Feature Article. So for now, as usual, check out this week's video tip, filmed live today in Perth!
Virtual Offices - Look professional without the price!
When you first start out in business, even if you only have 1 or 2 people on your team, you'll want to be giving the impression that you are much bigger and more professional than you are.
As we are over here in Perth this week, it just so happens that I connected with a friend of mine - John Abbott who has just been putting the finishing touches on a fabulous virtual office.
It took me back to five years ago when I was just starting out as a life coach. I wanted to have a place to bring clients (other than my lounge room)that was really professional and didn't cost an arm and a leg. I found a great virtual office in Sydney.
For a very low amount, you can get access to a place like this, where you can come in and do some work, see clients or even run a seminar! The very first seminar I ever ran was in the boardroom of a virtual office.
You want to find a place that will give an awesome impression and "wow" your clients.
If you are thinking of moving out of a home office or wanting to give a real professional air to what you are doing, then look up "virtual offices" and check out a few. They are all over the world.
Discover how to persuade and command an audience using the ancient art of story-telling.
Are you a story-teller in business? “Story-telling” is a vital tool to master for every great speaker. A great speaker will engage the audience’s emotion to get them to take action, change their attitudes, beliefs and overcome objections.
Here are just 4 different story types you can use to lead your audience to take action. Executed successfully they will take your presentations from one that is easily forgotten and dismissible, to inspiring and transformational that will catapult your results!
“The Icebreaker”
Intention: To create an instant connection
People can not argue with a personal story in a presentation. It provides a glimpse into your life, who you are and what is important to you. It adds credibility, builds rapport and can loosen the crowd up with some humor- if you use it.
Share a story that everyone can relate to.
It is always important that people can understand why you are telling the story and see “what is in it for them”. Link your Icebreaker in with your core message. Use it as a prelude as to what is to come in the presentation.
And importantly, use emotional expression in the story!
“The Elephant”
Intention: To make a point more memorable.
Telling a story to illustrate a message, with a powerful “reason why” will direct an audience to follow a command. You can use “hard to believe” or impactful stories to bring to life a presentation and make a message stick.
The three steps are:
- Tell the story to illustrate your point. A good story is one where you describe and exact scene in full sensory detail, with a crisis type moment. As long as it is totally engaging.
- Tell them what your point is.
- Tell them the ultimate benefit- or why they should do what you say.
“The De-Mystifier”
Clarify your message
You are more likely to remember the stories that speakers use to illustrate the point, than the point itself. When we hear a story we cast ourselves in the lead role. We associate into what the lead character is thinking, feeling, hoping, doing and compare ourselves- would I do that?
This is a great type of story to use when either:
- The concept you are trying to communicate is a complex one
- You are unable to explain something logically and linguistically, but a comparison to something else makes it easier to access.
“The Emotional Epic”
Digging up the emotional pain associated with a current situation
To get someone to take action- to buy a product, or simply to change the way they are doing something in their life- you need to engage their emotions and lead them through to the emotions which will cause the action.
All emotions are useful: fear, frustration, greed, love, passion, joy, relief, trust, commitment...
Ask yourself:
“What emotional state do I want my audience to be in?”
Become a Master
If you can master the art of telling a powerful and compelling story, you can change the actions your audience members take. It is only by impacting their actions that you can support them to make powerful changes. That person will walk away reflecting on your story unconsciously. They may find themselves wondering what you meant, or why it turned out that way, and how it relates to them.
When you tap into that- the fact that people always apply stories to themselves…
YOU CAN CREATE TRUE MAGIC!

As I mentioned earlier, we had our first Presenation Secrets event in Brisbane on Saturday - it was a resounding success. Our next one is coming up this Saturday in Perth, and we finish up the following weekend with a double whammy of Melbourne on Saturday and Sydney on Sunday.
It is shaping up to be one of the best workshops you can get yourself to if you've ever wanted to find out the secrets of running a successful and profitable speaking business. And for only $97 a ticket (less than a decent night out on the town) it won't break the bank.
If you've ever been curious if there could be a better way to market your business and leverage your income, then this event is for you and I can't wait to see you there.
There are still a few seats remaining, so to secure your place now just go to:

Until next week, take care.
